How basketball has changed over time

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Basketball is a great game for all levels and ages to play. Basketball is considered along with baseball to be a truly original and American sport. Basketball first official college game was held back in 1898 at the University of Kansas. Back then courts were much smaller than they are today. Basketball hoops were used from peach baskets and team consisted of nine players rather than 5 that are used today. However, like everything in life basketball has evolved quite a bit but much of the vestiges of the old game still live on. What have changed are the basketball hoops and the heights. Now a basketball hoop is a steel rim with 18 inches as a diameter of the hoop. There are baskets at each end of the court. The rim of the basketball hoop is 10 feet. For those who like to play casual games or get a little exercise one can get a portable basketball goal for the home or driveway area. Portable basketball goals are not only portable but can also have the height adjusted as well. Portable basketball goals are usually on wheels allowing for ease in moving the hoop to a desired location or for storage.

What to look for in youth sized baseball bats

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Many kids join a little league or a recreational baseball league in the spring time. These leagues and teams are a great way to introduce children to baseball and team sports. Baseball is just a great sport for children of all ages. Many clubs and recreational teams will supply a baseball cap and shirt. Often times they have youth baseball bats too, usually you may need to bring extra balls and a mit. When looking for youth baseball bats think in mind of the height and weight of the child and the age. Another factor to consider in youth baseball bats is whether to purchase a wood or metal baseball bat. Most kids especially if they are just beginning baseball won’t really know or care about metal or wood. Metal baseball bats tend to be more expensive than wood. But, wood can wear and age faster than metal. If your kid is one to “forget” to take care of his things and leave the metal baseball bat outside all winter and by spring you find that it is one long piece of rust maybe wood would be a good option. Of course a wood baseball bat sitting under a foot of snow won’t age well either.
