Time to Freelance

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Even though my brother graduated college over a decade ago, he is still struggling to meet all of his financial obligations at the end of every month. He’s actually a very talented graphic designer and can do just about anything with a computer. He’s worked at several companies throughout the years, but he’s always felt like he was underpaid, so during a family dinner last month he proclaimed that it was time for him to start freelancing. And within a week he landed a job at Ltron.com.

We’re all very proud of him and happy to hear the news, but I think my brother’s main problem is that he’s a little arrogant, which is his Achilles’ heel. He’s been there for a few months now and it all seems to be going pretty well. He’s happy with the money and his coworkers are very cool, but I can see it in his eyes that he’s already thinking that he should be making a lot more money. From what I understand, Ltron direct is a really good company to work for so I hope he doesn’t screw this opportunity up. Last night we went out and had a couple of beers and started talking things over, and he started explaining to me how he was already looking for another job.

Searching for Jobs Online

Friday, June 10th, 2011

I was searching for jobs online today when I came across a posting for an entry level job at K Alliance. The ad immediately caught my eye because a few weeks back I remembered a conversation I had overheard. I was riding the train home from visiting my parents and the couple sitting in front of me was talking a little too loud. I didn’t have any reading material and I had forgotten my iPod, so I started eavesdropping. But you couldn’t really blame me because they were talking like they were in their living room. Plus their conversation was really interesting.

Apparently the guy had just landed a new job with them. He was making K Alliance videos for all kinds of interesting things and was just in love with the job. He said it allowed him all kinds of freedom, plus it made use of his creative skills. As he continued to talk I remembered thinking that I would love to have half as much enthusiasm about what I had to do for a living. And now here was my shot. I had all the necessary skills to land this job, so I wrote a brand new cover letter and sent in my resume.
